Another flame pontil mark ?
« on: January 25, 2011, 04:01:09 PM »
Picked this little vase up today swear I could see a flame impression in the pontil scar (honestly Sue I could)  :-[
Then again I saw Elvis on my toast once so could just be my fertile imagination again.
No need to be gentle it was only 99p
Will take some better photos tomorrow the light was fading fast.

Looks like it could well be an early experimental bit of IoWSG to me. Good find for 99p.
I've got a flame pontil mark on a bit I could have sworn was the coachbolt mark - suzygpr found the slightly squidged flame when she was on holiday here, polishing my glass. :sun:

I saw a lion's face in a poster in a physiology lab. It was an enlarged stained section of a spinal cord.
The brain "sees" faces in random shapes, all it takes is something of a vaguely similar construction.
I don't pay the slightest bit of attention to folk seeing faces in toast or clouds or cornflakes.

Have a peek at the "Sold" archives at IoWSG, here - you'll see a couple of inside-out style vases with similar patterns to this bit you've found.

Sounds promising Sue?
Some more photos if it helps, where do I go from here with it? wait while it goes off the page and hope someone else sees it before it does, is there a forum on the Isle Of  Wight site maybe to forward a photo?
Thanks Chris

You two, your comments have been treated with the contempt they deserve :24:

What two, Chris? - I didn't see anything from a "you two  :pb: :pb: "?

Yes, IoWSG have a forum. Their site is quite comprehensive as well. Loads of archive photos of fabby work by Tim!
Main site:-
http://www.isleofwightstudioglass.co.uk/

Forum:-
http://www.isleofwightstudioglass.co.uk/SMF/index.php

As far as this bit is concerned, I do think asking them directly will yield a definite yay or nay for you.
Cheers, Sue M. (she/her)

"Often used to imply the onus was on the reader"
Your far too clever for me.
There was me thinking you had merely  miss-read the post and thought I was referring to a reply from someone called  "you two"
Anyone who is still confused "you two" refers to my two good friends who made the flippant comments :sun:
