Anne: a really interesting site, but I don't think it's a match, mostly because of the answer to my first question: can you feel the canes?
It's not usual to be able to feel the canes as they usually consist of a thin rod of glass that's marvered into the body of the piece so it becomes a very thin piece of glass. Here, the cane pretty well forms part of the bowl. I think this is harder to do, but I don't have the technical knowledge to be sure of that. The reason I asked in the first place is that I have a strong memory of a Murano piece I've come across that was made the same way. Unfortunately, my memory is about 50%: I know I saw it but I can't remember where or what it was.
The asymmetric arrangement of the canes is a little unusual for Murano, but not beyond possibility given the technique. I've been looking through books and websites today and no luck.
It is a lovely piece, and I was hasty in saying new.
