Topic: info pls on this vase, esp the indentation in the base

I bought this vase recently and would like to know more about it please if anyone knows, especially the indentation in the base, almost an artificial kickup? Is there a reason for it? or just for an interesting effect? A friend asked about a vase she had with one and I hadn't seen one before and now coincidentally there's one in a vase I just bought. It also has a mottled green design on the base and a polished rim. It's 8.5 cm tall.

Don't know about maker of this "vase", but could it be a candle stick?

I'd think a candlestick too...  although sometimes these were made so that they could be used either way up - multi-functional depending on whether you had flowers or candles... if you have both you're stuck of course!

an interesting idea, it being a candlestick, it would account for the indentation

two problems, IMHO, the base is so heavy and the shape is such that it seems unwieldy if it's turned that way up and the size candle that would fit is not common: opening is too small for the standard tall dinner table candles and too big for those thin ones

Just happened across this whilst looking for something else, and had a thought...  what about those ball candles with a peg at the base that slot into the recess? (Like the ones we used to see in Iittala adverts.)

On the basis that the "rim" does not appear to be very neatly finished in the picture, I vote for candle holder.

Me too for candleholder - before I read the posts.
Candles can be any size. And they can be cut or melted to fit if they don't.
