Riihimaeni/Riihimaki? Or suggestions please.....
« on: March 07, 2011, 11:00:23 PM »
Hi,

Can anyone confirm that this piece is Riihimaen or conversely that it absolutely isn't? Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Charlene

I would say absolutely not. Not Riihimäen Lasi, not Finnish.
The fact it seems not cased makes me doubtful - I would have suggested you look for something Swedish but can't say I would be very sure.
Actually looking now at the pic of the base - is there any visible wear? Could it be new and only inspired by some Scandinavian retro designs?

It could be Sea, or something from Bavaria... or if it is new it was made in Romania. But tricky to be certain for this type of glass.

Hi guys,

Thanks very much for taking the time to reply, px: there is enough base wear to imply some considerable age, I'd say. It's not cased so definitely not Riihimaen then - Ivo: maybe Sea, but it does seem to lack the quality you'd expect so maybe it is modern eastern European?? Its a nice looking piece nonetheless and I paid pennies for it at a bootsale so no kicking one's self required on this particular occasion  ;)
Thanks again - happy glassing!
