You won't loose bits if you put it in a plastic basin.

I never had conclusive evidence this was Clichy.
I've just received the book for Christmas and there is nothing like this in the book - there is no definitive shape match or decor match I could see.  I also couldn't see a single piece that had a trailed red rim although they did do solid colour trailed rims.

I'm questioning the attribution.

So sorry to hear that this has given you a disappointing Christmas m  -  never mind, we all get let down some time or another ;D

Seriously tho..........   regret not my sort of glass and unable to offer any useful info., but............    pump handles and these large trefoil shaped rims were common ish c. 1850 in a variety of places, and j.p's comments were usually light years better than mine, especially in the area of this 'Venetian' sort of decorative glass, which presumably was were the French, and everyone else, borrowed the look from.

Baccarat did this shape I'm sure, although don't know if they did mezza filigrana - or maybe St. Louis - and there's even a chance it could be Bohemian or Richardson's in England  -  you'll probably never know for sure.

quote         ...." Dad liked glue - lots of glue"  ..     makes me think of the humorous lines.........   "I love cooking with wine - sometime I even put it in the food".. ;)

Presumably you've not yet dismantled this piece  -  do the usual and start at the least intrusive end of the spectrum of anti-glue chemicals and work up to paint stripper or solvent of some kind.              The glues that give real problems are the Araldite types, and they too go brown after time - although here again think I've heard that paint stripper can help.

 ;D

I think not UK or Bohemian.
I would incline to French and Cristallerie Saint-Louis if not Clichy.
There are not many of these around but there are some.  I would have thought if it were Clichy there would have been a piece in the book on show.

Interesting ... and means I need to do some more research which is the fun part :)

Cross reference link to another thread.  On that thread there is one shown in the Black County Museum in the same decor technique that was a Benjamin Richardson bequest and is identified as Clichy.
http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,45587.msg282576.html#msg282576

I think it is remarkably odd that whilst there are plenty of filigrana examples in the book there are none in the shape of my jug, in the shape of the Benjamin Richardson vase and none in that decor or technique.

There is one example of this technique in Baguiers et Verre a Boire du XIXeme siecle
on page 183 plate141 in a beige yellow type colour filigrana with white - it is identified as Saint-Louis.
