date request for Bohemian enamelled bowl
« on: March 26, 2011, 11:19:25 PM »
Of course, it might be German I suppose.        Couldn't resist this earlier today in the charity shop - only £0.75p (something a little less that one Euro??) - and it really does appear to be period, and not recent.     The top has been ground and bevelled, then gold painted - although much of this has now worn away - and the enamelled colours look similar to some of the pictures (in books) of older glass from Bohemia.     The base is flat and showing some wear, although not as much as I might have expected, and the little white enamelled dots are raised.           OR.........is it a reproduction tourist piece that I have fallen for - the colour of the glass is quite 'white' - although of poorish quality - actually the more I look at it the more I think it is not that old. :usd:      Length of bowl is about 160mm/6.25".

The enamelling looks quite similar to the examples shown in the Passau catalogues -
north bohemian ~1915 seems right for me.
Getting close to lunch time - wish we had charity chops over here, too...  :P

thanks Dirk  -  glad to think that my first thoughts were probably correct  -  although I had this notion that glass from that period might have been a little less pure and shown some slight greenish tinge perhaps. :)
