More like a split in the base looks like someone has tried to saw through the base not a crack it's smooth more of a separation strange!

Looks like a crease or fold when the glass was still hot and maleable.

irritatingly I can't look now as I've just sold my sidestripe vase, but I feel the base on that looks similar to this.  Perhaps it was going to be a sidestripe and then they changed their minds  ;D

Appears to be as john said, just a fold from when the glass was still hot. Some people class it as damage, but really just a flaw from when it was made. I've had a couple of mdina pieces with similar flaws.
