A friend of mine has one, which she bought ( a long time ago) thinking it was Whitefriars ( polished pontil mark and all that !!!!!)  Well I knew it wasn't but have been trying for ages to find out exactly what it is, so I can appear "knowledgeable"  LOL!!!  :spls:

Hooray...........now I can!!!!  Just came across it today. :rah:

:help: Being thick here - "Chlum u Trebone, Jan Gabrhel" - Jan Gabrhel is the designer, but is Chlum u Trebone the company or the design?

You can also find the piece on Jindrich's site, in the glassworks section (select Chlum u Třeboně to see the item in the catalogue).

Cathy, Chlum u Třeboně is the name of the glassworks.  :kissy:

Also known as Cesky, part of Crystalex. Chlum u Trebone is the name of the town it was located. The glassworks sadly went out of business.

Emmi, thanks for finding this modell in the dusan album !
Astrid, is it right, that this glassworks in chlum at trebone is even called CESKY/Crystalex ?
so, if a sticker would have been to this Jan Gabrhel vase, it would show Cesky/Crystalex ?!

I'm not quite sure which labels were in use for this particular glassworks. I've seen it mentioned as "Skarny Cesky Kristal, Chlum u Trebone", but also as merely "Chlum u Trebone". The name Crystalex was attached to, but I don't know from what date onwards, maybe there was some sort of merger at some point. The most used label would probably have been the Bohemia label, with the Cesky symbol on it to distinguish it from other factories.

I've found a page in Jindrich's showing both the name and the symbol in the corner:

https://picasaweb.google.com/Jindra8526/ChlumUTrebone?authkey=Gv1sRgCNrd_fOJu-u8PQ#5447280750175777074

Perhaps Jindrich can help clear up the confusion. I'm afraid that the details of Czech glassworks names and ownerships are still somewhat of a puzzle to me most of the time :)
