Joachim Rohmann (1942-2011)
« on: May 17, 2011, 09:05:21 PM »
My brother-in-law, Joachim Rohmann, passed away unexpectedly in April. To keep the memory alive I have begun to show some of his work on a web page:
Joachim Rohmann (1942-2011).
As the text is in German let me briefly explain the three types of work, and how they were done:
Spiegelbilder - Mirror Images: Aluminium sheets, wire meshes, silver wires, polished pieces of glass are mounted on a glass mirror, and covered with slightly frosted glass for a matt appearance.
Hinterglasbilder - some sort of reverse glass painting, applying colour with a wad of cotton wool to the frosted surface, then again mounting this in-front of a mirror (coloured side inside).
Objekte - various objects, mostly chiselled clear crystal glass, often polished and fused, sometimes combined with other materials. Only later he also used glass coloured by himself, and slumped. My favourite is a combination of two pieces: Bridge over Troubled Water.
Vitrinen finally gives some examples of his "bread and butter" work.
Wolf Seelentag, St.Gallen

That's a wonderful site and lovely tribute.  And anyone of those pieces would have a home in my home - beautiful works of art.
