Hi, I'm wondering if this is a genuine 19th century scent bottle or a reproduction? It stands on it's side and is 1 & half inches high. It's shaped like a turtle and has four feet on the bottom. On top, it has two dragons on each side with a Chinese mark in the centre.

There's a similar one here described as a snuff bottle, TC: http://www.rara-avisfinearts.co.uk/id13.html (about halfway down) and this site might be helpful too: http://antiquechinesesnuffbottles.info/

Nice find there Anne, looks almost the same. I spotted it in a charity shop for £1 and thought it looked really nice.

I posted on Asian Art Forums and someone kindly replied (Bill H). It appears to read...  山石云土 (Shan shi yun tu) meaning 'Mountains, Rocks, Clouds and Earth', the Cloud marking dating it to the third quarter of the 20th century.

I bought it in a charity shop years ago, it might bring me good luck.  ;D
