Hi All,

I bought this wee vase at a local fair, its unmarked with a rough pontil mark. The vase has random bubbles throughout and has a swirling/streaking effect. It stands 5" tall and is a chunky little vase and great to hold. I was told that it might be Nazeing glass and possibly from the 1930's but I have never held or seen a bit in the flesh so I wondering if any experts in cyberspace could give me any if or thoughts on my little vase.

Cheers in advance, David :sc:

It reminds me of John Orwar Lake's pieces for Ekenas, except his pieces are usually signed and the base well finished.  Here's one to show you what I mean.

David

PS  The blue hasn't shown up very accurately. In reality, it's much closer to the blue in your piece.

Hi David, I'm liking your vase a lot. I think the quality of my wee vase isn't quite as good as the Ekenas piece, and definitely no signatures.

Cheers,
David :sc:

The sharp pontil mark and bubbly effect are typical of Nazeing, but the sharp pontil mark may put it post-War if it is Nazeing. (i had a pre-War piece with a lovely polished pontil mark that Nigel ID'd for me)

Thanks Christine, so maybe Nazeing but later than the 1930's date I was given, thanks so much for the information. The more I look at this wee vase the more I'm liking it, even 'her indoors' passed comment that it was ' quite nice '.....she's learning

Cheers, David :sc:

My first thoughts were Nazeing - it's very like a specific Nazeing shape I'm familiar with - but I'm wondering if the foot shouldn't be a bit more pronounced... ????
so then I had a tiny wonder about Wedgwood???
Cheers, Sue M. (she/her)

I have an Nazeing bowl that has a cracked off pontil mark and also has that curious kind of yellowish clear thick casing on the base.
Mine is id'd as post war.

Hi, Sue I have found a vase by Nazeing, described as a ' barrel ' shape and it does have an actual foot, the colour is a bit Wedgewood! The footed vase was listed as 1950's so maybe.....
Flying free, it has the yellowish thick base that you describe, lots of tiny bubbles throughout, does this sound even similar?
cheers, David

yes but I am no expert.  I'm sure there was a gorgeous green one on here a while back in that shape. Maybe if you search the board for Nazeing and put in for the last 365 days in the search, the thread will come up.Your shape is lovely, I like it a lot.
