Glass ram/sheep sculpture ... ID?
« on: June 20, 2011, 04:01:09 AM »
A collector friend of mine picked up this turquoise glass sculpture of a sleeping ram or bighorn sheep at an antique show here in the Toronto area. It's about 7-8 inches long, fairly heavy, and has a smooth, polished base. The horns appear to have been cold-carved ... nicely done. I can't say as I've ever seen anything like it.

Anyone here have any idea of the possible nationality of this piece, or who might have made it?

Thanks,

Rob

A couple of shots from different perspectives, including a close up of the base, would help. At first glance, it might be a Janků piece for ZBS (Czechoslovakia), but I couldn't be sure until I see more views.

Hi David,

My friend is going to take a few more pics of it tonight, and I'll post them as soon as he sends them to me.

Thanks,

R.

Well, here are two more views of the ram/sheep. My friend apologizes that the pics were shot outside on his deck, as the glass appears to be reflecting quite a bit of his garden! But these should give you an idea of the base and top views of the piece.

It's a lovely thing, and I must say that my first impression was that it could be Czech.

Cheers,

Rob

I don't think it's a Janků piece, although hard to tell still. It really helps to photograph against a clear background, white preferably. Here's my Janků ram to give you an idea.
