The problem with the signature is that the glass behind distorts it or misleads the eyes so I can't read all of it.  You will get a much clearer and cleaner version if you take a picture at a shallow angle so the flat surface reflects the light and the writing does not and this is easier to read.  I have attached two photos of a Gunnel Sahlin vase I own which shows the effect.

Hi:

I'm probably stating the obvious when I say the signature and the finish on the base say 1981 studio glass to me, competently done. Is it from the US rather than Canada, where I think you're located? I don't recognize the name and the such signatures are often very difficult to figure out unless you've seen the signature before. What's your guess as to what the name is?

I honestly have no idea. I was told it looked like an American maker and I did buy it from the US. It says M. Son and either a y, j or g, then o and maybe a p, then a scrawled letter then maybe an n then an i? Very hard to see magnified, then  '81. I got my daughter to take another pic..I love mysteries and would LOVE this one solved!

Mysteries are fun, but I've got a feeling this will be a hard one to solve. There's not many people on here who collect modern US studio glass, so your chances of someone coming along and recognizing the signature are slim. The other approach is to keep Googling the combinations that you come up and add glass studio, or something like that.

she will be shortly, I have tried many many variations to the name and gotten nothing sadly..It "feels" almost italian in a sense. I really hope to figure this out? It is a beautiful vase, I am not sure if you can see in the pic but the color starts off on the top almost a purple and fades to a pink...very well done.

Pretty sure it is not Australian although the  way it is signed is typical of here.  Many USA artists sign on the edge of the base rather than the base itself.  Maybe Canadian?  Glass however tends to shift enormous distances so do not be surprised if it were Scandinavian for example.
