Just bought this - looks like Archimede Seguso to me
« on: July 19, 2011, 10:44:05 PM »
There are a fair few of these around in square form and I have one myself, I hadn't seen a round one before. Looks close to AS and the size is right (7") but Cenedese seems to be ringing in the back of my head for some reason.

Any thoughts anyone?

If interested I may post some more photo's when it turns up.

That is gorgeous!  stunning colour.  Can I see a pic of your square version as well please?  I love opaline glass and I have a square one that is cut.  I thought it was possibly French.
Rose I love your lidded opaline pot as well!  beautiful  :sun:

Ardy, I just found this. I see some similarities.  http://cgi.ebay.com/ARCHIMEDE-SEGUSO-Murano-ART-GLASS-PINK-PERFUME-BOTTLE-/330590439802?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4cf8b9c97a

Thanks Tami -  yes these are the square ones that are in Leslie Pina's book. I like these items as they seem to point to a more genteel age when women had large bottles of oils and perfumes in a bathroom. Somewhat voyeuristic but there you have it!!!!!!!!!

Still looking for a replacement stopper for the alabastro one above think it will take a serious amount of time and the chances of finding someone with a broken bottle but a good stopper must be rare. Even if I found one it would still need regrinding.

Re: Just bought this - It Ain't Archimede Seguso

ArgHHHH!!! don't you just hate it. You buy off ebay and wait and wait for delivery, in this case 5 weeks and then it ain't nothing like you expect it to be.

Where do I begin - it is moulded, the stopper has never been ground into the bottle. It is so light a feather duster might crack it, in fact the stopper feels like it weighs more than the container.

The god of ebay giveth and the devil of ebay taketh away!

I'd ask for a return then as it was advertised as Seguso.

hi m - never sent anything that is working back before and the costs to ship it back make it prohibitive. Think I will just swallow my failure and look at the next piece that I KNOW is A.S.

I find that the photo's are not always great and it makes a rough id difficult and that was the case with this one. I have an antique dealer friend and he will not buy off ebay as he says he needs to touch and feel it to ensure it is quality. He is right but I don't have all day to wander around auctions and op shops looking at stuff.

aren't they supposed to pay the postage back if it is misadvertised?  it says Seguso.  And you're saying it isn't. Therefore it is misadvertised isn't it?
