Nuutajarvi - Notsjo bird...has the red colour been added?
« on: July 29, 2011, 03:28:34 PM »
Hello again, sorry to ask for more help, but I have seen this sweet little Nuutajarvi - Notsjo birdie for sale. ( I collect them!)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330594466117

I have several, but I have never seen any with red enamel on them before. I have asked for a close up of the beak to make sure it is not damaged, but now it looks like the 'red' is ?nail varnish!?

Do any of you know if this would have been added during manufacture, or do you think it might be a later 'paint job'?
Rosie.

Someone's nail varnished him; he has a streak on his head and smudges.

Hi Christine  :hi:  that's what I thought.  Is this relatively easy to remove with nail varnish remover, or will it damage the glass?
I am aware this bird doesn't have the Jaako Niemi name, but I feel pretty certain it is one of his.....do you agree?
I have another of his that is less than 1" long!!  I love them!

He's definitely a Jaakko Niemi bird. The lack of designer name and date in the mark just means he was made 1965 or later.

Try flaking the varnish off with your own fingernail - remover will get it off, but will spread it all over too.
(besides, it's kind of satisfactory picking it all off... >:D )

It will look a lot better without it!

Picking it off then nail varnish remover for the rest would work. Glass is pretty inert to most things, especially on short term contact.

I agree Sue, it would look better without.....now the question id, what might it be hiding?  Why was it put on there in the first place?

Thank you all for your helpful input,  I have just got to decide if I want it enough to risk finding the nail polish is hiding a 'ding' or chip!!!
