Is this Bohemian or not? Who might the maker be?
« on: August 08, 2011, 03:29:37 PM »
I have had this lovely vase for some time but am not getting far attributing it.

As you can see it is dark red over a thin white layer , cut to clear , and then gilded with those strange(to me) symbols.  Circa 12" high

Funny. I had the same thought - but it is really a C with a strikeout line through it  [ C ].  I wonder what the symbol means - if anything.

The decorative symbol could be a very stylised (minimalist) version of an acanthus leaf.

I do not recognise the form of the vase, the cutting style or the very dark ruby flashing.

I associate the dark ruby flashing with Russian and the symbol could be a cyrilic letter E.

I have forgotten if I bought this from Melbourne - but I live in an area full of Russian Jews - so the idea it is Russian is not foreign to me.  An excellent suggestion Ivo.

Now does anyone know of a good Russian site where I might get a line on it?
