Topic: Opaque decorative vase

Bonjour à tous,
I found this most peculiar item whilst browsing through a local summer fete some weeks ago. It's very heavy and weighs just over 400g. It is 25cm in height. It has a polished pontil, slightly concaved, which measures 2cm across. It's a three-footed vase. Around the rim of the vase is folded outwards and pleated. Can anyone advise how I could obtain information regarding this extraordinary item ??

mmm, just to start you off you could try looking up Stevens and Williams, Boulton and Mills and also Mat-su-noke Stevens and Williams ,although I believe this is not mat-su-noke as the applied decoration is coloured not clear (open to correction here on the definition of mat su noke) however that should take you to some images where you can compare.  Others will no doubt be along to guide you to other possible makers or even full id  :sun:

It's not mat-su-noke; that's sort of clear pine needley flowers. The bi-colour leaves would indicate that it might be English to me rather than Bohemian, but I doubt you'll find a positive attribution. The white is probably uranium glass (shine a UV light on it and it should glow green). It is most definitely Victorian c 1890 and a very good find at a fete.  :mrgreen:

Luckily I had a UV Light to hand and to my surprise, when I shone the light into the vase, the whole of the white area glowed green! :dance:

Here are my bits (2 pages) in similar uranium glass. In most cases, it's only the cream/white/yellow that's uranium.

Yes, but I wouldn't necessarily take those as gospel. Many companies went for this sort of style and there is little documentation to match things up.
