Welcome to the board. Is the bottom of the bowl ground flat and really shiny? If so you have a piece of Inwald's Lord aka Jacobean pattern with intaglio fruit decor (it's often plain).  Here's mine; no underplate though http://lustrousstone.co.uk/cpg/displayimage.php?pid=745 and http://lustrousstone.co.uk/cpg/displayimage.php?pid=739

Many thanks for the info Christine, exact except for the colour. I was lucky enough to find two bowls and underplates in a box of glass that I bought at an auction room a few days ago(still working my way through the box). Am I right in thinking these are dessert dishes and do they sell?

I would say dessert dishes, but as to saleability, who knows
