Blue bulbous vase Mdina ?
« on: August 11, 2011, 01:38:31 PM »
Hi, large bulbous vase 9.5 inches tall and 5 inches dia in what looks like Mdina colours with a smattering of yellow. Then base is flat and polished and does not have the usual signature. Is it mdina and if so is there a approximate year of its production.?
Many thanks

Pretty sure this is Mdina looking at the colour. Not all Mdina is signed. Difficult to speculate on date, although I would think sometime after late 70s...not a shape I'm familiar with.

Hope this helps a little.

 :)

Can't add anything to that, I'm afraid. It's not a standard shape or size, so Greg's approximation of date is about the best you'll get.

Thanks Greg and Sue, it does have some characteristics of Mdina but will keep searching hoping for another like it.

Again thanks for your input

Malc

I'm pretty sure it's Mdina - it's sort of like an onion bottle - but with a wider and flanged neck.
However, some early Phoenician glass can resemble Mdina in an awful lot of ways - hardly surprising as they have the same Harris "root".
