May well be Victorian, of course, and I assume it is only part of something much larger, but could be wrong.   The imitation fruit glows very well, and is attractive with the pink blossom and green leaf effect costume type jewellery sort of look, and what you can see measures about 7.5" / 190mm long.     If anyone does have any thoughts on origin or use, would be grateful to hear of any ideas.    thanks.

I would guess it's quite new, but it depends what the stems are wrapped in. If it was old I would expect paper ribbon of the sort you used to get on the wire legs of Christmas tree birds and some rust showing through. That looks like modern florist ribbon. I'd go for fairly modern Czech, but pretty.

Paul, that is very pretty...  but I wonder what it was used for?  190mm is quite big (before I read the size, I thought it was a brooch).

Pretty thing.  As for use, maybe a wine bottle decoration ie to be slipped over bottle neck and rest on shoulders?  Just a thought.  Where did you get it?

I think the wine-bottle decoration suggestion is perfectly logical.
But I'd still use it as a brooch.  Or a hat-pin.   :usd:   Shame I don't drink wine.

thanks to all, and apologies, I forgot to describe the wire covering, which may well assist with dating, and it came incidentally from this morning's boot sale.   The internal wire - which I now see is quite a bright brassy colour - is covered in a lime greenish almost wool like wrapping.      So, perhaps not as old as I had first thought, although the woman at the boot sale said she had owned this for many years.     Oh, have I been lied to again by a woman      And I've just knocked another leaf off the piece.     The fine parts of the branches actually go into very small diameter holes in the leaves, and too much bending of the wires and obviously the leaves will drop (whether it is autumn or not).    Have the Czech. factories been producing these of late do you know??     Might look good on the Christmas tree, perhaps    Anyway, it was only Sterling £1.50.

For some people, many years is more than five. Sounds like "silk" thread; too shiny for wool. It could be 1-30 years old (but that's new in our book,  :24: :24: ).
