Vase ID needed - poss murano?
« on: August 19, 2011, 02:57:12 PM »
Lovely charity shop find today (Well 2 if you include the JC labelled Arthur Percy style vase).

This is a heavy cased vase that stands approx 20cm tall and 450g.  The internal colour is cranberry red and the casing amber.

Wondering where it might have been made

I've noticed that tilting the vase makes the rim look blue in colour.  Theres no obvious blue glass I can see and I can't work out why it produces this effect.  What might cause this effect?

Dont know but its a good sign ,you only get that effect on older glass not new glass especially when looking at it at an angle , new polishing looks clear in my opinion . mind you i have had a couple of glasses tonight due to ebay . :grrr:  i wish we had a smiley of the one finger proctologists salute . Perhaps Patrick can organise one . cheers

Could we have a photo directly from the side please?  It looks like it's cased in yellow glass...or is it just an illusion?   :)

For some reason my camera is now only doing soft focus shots like some 70's "specialist" photographer but you can at least see the yellow/amber casing clearly on this one.

The main body of the vase looks pure Murano to me, but the mouth isn't what I'd expect.  Still, I'd be looking at Murano primarily.

Nice piece.

Cheers David.  I love it.  Couldn't believe my luck when I found it.
