Iridescent glass...mystery unmarked vase.
« on: September 12, 2011, 01:12:54 PM »
Recently bought this vase in Ghent, Belgium and as it is unmarked and I am no expert I could do with a pointer or two on what it is!  It seems such a beautiful iridescent piece (apart from the crude finishing off of the pontil mark) that I couldn't resist.

Many thanks in advance

 :hi:
Welcome to the board and thank-you for good images.
I can't help I'm afraid, but have patience - somebody else might have a clue, or even two.
Cheers, Sue M. (she/her)

Thanks Sue,

Everyone seems very knowledgable here so probably someone will be able to help.

Cheers,

Duncan

Very nice!  No idea either I'm afraid but giving the size would be an advantage.

Just short of 19cm tall in metric and the top measures 8cm across.  I have a piece of Mtarfa Maltese iridescent glass but this is a lot heavier weighing in at 625g whilst the newer piece is much finer and is only 325g.  The Mtarfa piece is also ground completely flat at the base.

I hope this helps more.

Duncan
