heavy clear/green vase: VSL? ID = VSL, "Cezanne", C1938
« on: September 20, 2011, 10:11:58 AM »
I inherited this vase from my aunt. My first guess would be that it is from Val Saint Lambert, buy I didn't find any similar objects yet.

No markings.
heigth: 23 cm
width at top: 18 cm
weigth: +5 kg
thickness of glass: 17mm

It was very difficult to make some acceptable photographs, because of the internal reflections inside the glass.

Hope you can help me with confirming the ID and perhaps giving some indication of year of production.

Many thanks
BrunoD

Does remind me of VSL, if not VSL my second guess would be Bohemian.

Here are a couple other cut VSL vases:

Style and colour are VSL but it is not in the full catalogue from 10 years ago - so it would probably be older, perhaps 60s or 70s. I give you 80% chance that VSL is the correct attribution.

Hans from www.artglasleiden.nl has a similar looking one (but not quite the same) in his collection that he thinks is Val st. Lambert around 1935.

Here is his version:

(I mean the blue one)

I found an "prune"coloured version of my vase, by googling on "val saint lambert art deco":

Val-Saint-Lambert
1926
Vase 'Cezanne'

Thanks everybody for all your help!

Hi there,

Beautiful vase. Definately VSL. The model is named Cezanne and was made in 1938.

I added a picture taken from my VSL catalogue.

About the designer. In earlier posts I saw an example of a VSL vase which was made by Graffart, but this design is probably from Joseph Simon, although the catalogue doesn't say. See also:

Hoi bablo

I appreciate your help!

If the Cezanne vase is in the '38 catalogue, do you have any idea why Mallet Antiques situates it in 1926?

I found examples of other vases, all with those large dots, attributed to Joseph Mallet:

Bruno,

It could be that the Cezanne vase in the 1938 catalogue is a reproduction of an earlier design. 1926 was the year that J. Simon started his career at VSL. So technically it's possible, but somehow I doubt it the vase was made earlier than 1938.

I think you mean "Joseph Simon" here :)
