Who might have made this?
« on: September 23, 2011, 02:29:58 AM »
This is a scan of a photo I took of a vase my Aunt owned.  Unfortunately she left it to the grand-daughter of the original owner so I did not get it.  What fascinat5ed me at the time is that I would have dated it to the early 50s, but she went to the wedding where it was given as a present in 1929.

Came across the photo the other day and got to wondering who might have made it.  Unfortunately I can't get any more photos since it went to Canberra and I have lost track of the owner.

Wow! Assuming her memory was not screwed (Not an uncommon condition, as I have it - so nasty common,) that would make the designer/maker quite a pathfinder. It has to be worth tracking down that relative... "Hi been wondering what you have been up to all these years, by the way do you use still that vase Auntie left you? No!, Can you post it to me... broken... well it was nice catching up with you, drop by the GMB sometime.*

I assure you she was completely clear it was a wedding gift to her best friend's sister in 1929 - and believe me her memory was not at all screwed, right up to the day she left home (where she lived independently by herself) at nearly 92 for an operation she had to have - but did not survive long term.  I was hoping - as the only living close relative to inheret it, but no it had to go to the grand-daughter of the original owner.

I realised that in the late 20's there would have been very wealthy graziers who would come into Brisbane to shop and so there would have been top end shops there even in those days.  However, the buyers must have been very advanced.  I assumed it was Murano, but Bohemia would surely be a possibility.  I shall try to get in touch with the owner and perhaps arrange for more photos.
