Large seagull with feather effect. Any ideas as to origin?
« on: September 26, 2011, 02:20:43 PM »
Another item from the IOW hospice. Will soon be on Ebay. It is rather handsome and the treatment of the glass gives the whole piece a much lighter effect, as on can see light between the 'feathers'. The black, grey parts are as if smudged with charcoal.
Weighs 1.2 k
!4 cms high and long, 17 wide.

Any help with origin would be appreciated.
Thankyou
Jeanne

Decoration effect is excellent and reminds me of Marcolin... but not certain on that. But that green background makes the bird look distinctly unwell and left me a little queasy too  :-X

I thought Marcolin too, but it's not really my sort of area.

Ginger is very good for nausea, Frank.

Sorry if the green made you feel unwell, It was the only colour I had to hand to cover the white background on the photo table that we use for ebay pics.

:24: I think Frank was pulling your leg a little bit, Jeanne, don't worry. You needed to cover the white background to bring the bird up.

First off Jeanne I really like the bird and would have been very happy to find it.

All three of my Marcolin/Ronneby pieces have a polished base.  The "feathers" look very like my Ronneby Goose "feathers" though.  I believe there was some discussion re Nason birds.

http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,37866.0.html       worth reading Inca & TxSilver's remarks

should get you thinking in slightly different directions.  That ground but not polished base does not look like Ronneby/Marcolin to me but may be from Murano.

Hi Jeanne,  :hi: Have got to step in here now, as I am both a bird collector and collect birds and animals with this 'feathered' effect in the glass.
Firstly, is Ross correct that the base is unpolished. or is it just the angle the picture is taken?
Secondly, we need Ingela here,  could a mod add something to the title to attrect her attention please?

Or, Jeanette, you might like to email her to ask if she would take a peek at this thread....give her the url link to save her time.

In the absence of any engraved markings to the base, I would go with either Marcolin or V. Nason, it is a beautiful quality piece.

I like it.  :sun:
Rosie.

When all's said and done, there's nothing left to say or do.  Roger McGough.

The base looks polished to me.
