confirmation of leech pot please.
« on: October 09, 2011, 05:23:32 PM »
the only reason for doubt is the rather less than round body.         Most of the leech pots I can see on members sites, and ebay etc., show a spherical body, rather than this almost pitcher shape.    I'm inclined to believe it is the real thing, but would appreciate confirmation from someone more versed in these things. Height is 4.75"/120mm - with plain moulded foot, and quite a considerable amount of wear.     thanks for looking :)

I'd say it isn't (IMHO) but I think someone on ebay called a similar piece a leech jar recently so I guess the jury is still out (or sellers want to get higher prices which leech glasses will command). With that shape there'd be less room for the leeches on the bottom so I would wonder why they would make one in that shape.

thanks for the reply  -  and must admit I wasn't too confindent myself, really  -  but I was rather lost for ideas as to what else this might have been.     As you say, most leech pots are far more round than this one, although if a little damp moss were inserted then the leeches would have no need to stay at the bottom of the jar, and could wander, at will, around the mossy terrain ;)
