Found this pressed glass vase in a charity shop today.

Lovely stepped body.

Base is etched ER with the Crown which is the right way round when viewed from inside.

scavo — Phoenix heat-resistant glass by The British Heat Resisting Glass Co., initially Lodge Road*, Birmingham, then Loxdale Road, Bilston.   Formed in 1934 by a group of ex-Chance employees following Chance's abandonment of Orlak heat-resistant glass at the end of 1933.   Designed by architect Raymond McGrath in consultation with Elizabeth Craig, the food author.

Looks to me sandblasted rather than acid-etched, but I can't be certain.

New to me — I wasn't previously aware of a Phoenix 1953 Coronation souvenir.

I recognised the pattern and then sourced from Dodsworth, BGbtW, item 245, p.82.   See also p.37 and Encill, Chance Expressions, pp12–13.

I had a hunch there'd be a connection to Chance but never thought of it being heat resistant glass.

Yes, sand blasted not etched.

I think I'll put it on ebay. Will notify when in the Marketplace. Thanks again.
