Chock full o'murrines-would like to know maker please
« on: October 26, 2011, 05:15:08 AM »
Hi every one, just trawling through the odd box or two and came across a bowl I have wanted to I.D. for a while now.
Small heavy square bowl with folded edges, creating four corner depressions. Clear glass filled with numerous coloured murrines, concave polished base, minimal wear. 17cm square and 6.5cm high. Last picture is a close up of the murrines, possibly some one out there in glassland recognizes them and can point me in the right direction -Murano is  where I was thinking.
regards from a warm Napier-Carol :sun:

Hi,
They look like Murano canes to me and the shape of the bowl looks similar to labelled Murano bowls I've had in the past. Never seen one quite as busy as that one before though.

Murrines are pictorial canes... an art-form in itself.

Thanks you Rose,Frank and Bryn, I had thought of Fratelli Toso but as my Fratelli Toso paperweights are still packed away I can not  compare. Any way its a cracker of an item and quite heavy. Just trying to take it one box at a time to unpack and drool over.
again many thanks for your comments. regards Carol :t:
