Topic: Unusual Colour Mdina Textured Bottle

Hi All,

Just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on the colour of this Mdina textured bottle. Its a golden yellow colour with a fair amount of iridescence, I haven't encounter a textured bottle in this colour before, I would be interested to hear your thoughts...

Me neither, but occasionally some of the amethyst items end up as quite yellow looking. A year or two ago Ron Wheeler sold a giant amethyst fish vase that looked a pale yellow depending on the light.

Thanks John. I know what you mean about the amethyst bottles, I have seen them in a number of different shades, the lighter ones do appear a slightly different colour sometimes.  This one definitely appears to be a golden yellow, the yellow is quite strong in places, especially the top half.  Might see what Ron has to say, certainly seems slightly unusual.

It's definitely right and it definitely seems to be golden yellows/reddy browns - the first I've encountered in these colours.
And loads and loads of iridesence all over - just like my amethyst one. :thup:

Certainly an interesting piece, I'm quite a fan of these textured bottles. Although as you know I had to let one of the others go, although I'm more than happy to put this one in its place. Very surprised about the sale of the other one, ebay can be a strange beast sometimes.

Here's another unusual colour for Mdina's textured items, this time a small textured vase.

Again largely yellow, although much lighter than the deep golden yellow of the large textured bottle.

I do like the ones with clearer bases - it's a lovely variation to have isn't it?

  As is the narrower-than-normal rim. :thup:

Thanks Sue. Its a nice example of its kind.

The narrower rims do seem nicer, the proportions seem to work better. I did have a greenish one with a narrow rim, although sold it a while ago, I wish I had kept it now as it would have gone well with the yellow and amethyst small pots.

I prefer them wider but the yellow ochre variation is lovely, I wonder what others may crop up? They do look good in a group like that.
