Decanter- 1.6kg looks like early caithness but isn't
« on: November 07, 2011, 09:13:50 PM »
Glass decanter smokey brown grey colour (looks like CG peat to me). 10.25 inches tall 5.25 inches diameter at the widest point. Has a ground and highly polished pontil base. Weighs a hefty 1.6kg. Would appreciate any help as to the i.d. of this item.

Thankyou in advance.

I don't think it is Caithness.

Neither do I. I've just gone right through the book to check.
None of the Caithness decanters have a flange on the rim which sticks out sideways, there is a round shaped one, but it doesn't have a long neck, there's one with a long neck, but the base is a sideways oval shape.

So the shape's all wrong - but it also just doesn't look like Caithness or Caithness quality - the neck looks a bit thick and uneven, the base looks marvered aound the polished out pontil mark.....

Sadly, I can't think what it might be.
Cheers, Sue M. (she/her)

Thanks for the help so far. So Caithness is ruled out. Probably ought to ammend the topic title, if i can.

Thankyou
