Topic: Penguin ID help please

Hoglund?  Wow...  I thought the penguin was Chinese, though I don't detect a greasy feel or an odd smell.  The penguins in the link do look much like mine, but there are some differences (not including the beak  :usd:):
- the wings on my bird have got creases in them... the Hoglund ones seem to have smooth wings
- my bird has deep set eyes... the Hoglund ones don't  
- the mottling on my penguin appears messier than the Hoglund ones
- my penguin isn't signed

Mine just doesn't seem to be of the same caliber.

P.S.  Chris, I'm sorry to hear about your bird.  £5 is a lot to spend on something so broken.   Luckily, I know someone who can spruce it up for you...

Anik, do you think it may be a Chinese version of a Hoglund? I don't know a lot about them. I think they are in NZ. I have a beautiful pink vase they made. It surprised me to see their penguins, since I associated them with the nice vase. I've never held one of the penguins, so I don't know how well they are made.

Hi Anita, though I wish my penguin was a Hoglund example, I don't think it is.  A Chinese version could be feasible... the clear glass isn't 'sparkly' clear which convinces me it's not a better maker.  On the other hand, I think my penguin is 15-20 years old as there is quite a bit of wear to the base.

Or you could knock the rest of the foot off and list is as Whitefriars.......like everyone else does....you could call it a frigger! :24:
