Staining inside vase

I have a piece of Stevens and Williams. Blue Green rainbow vase. (At least I think its S & W) It is badly stained on the inside. I have ordered a glass stain removal/polish kit, I understand it wont be an easy task but have any of you done this to glass ? and does it work ? It also has a small * shaped mark in it. I cannot feel it from either side of the vase and the vase rings true. Is it a manufacturing fault ?
