Small Goblet Id Help Please
« on: November 27, 2011, 05:07:35 PM »
I recently found a glass goblet which is highly engraved bowl and foot, but am having some trouble finding out anything about it. If anyone can tell me approximate age and country of origin, I'd be really appreciative!

The glass is 5 1/4 inches high. The large large bowl is highly decorated/engraved with stylised shell designs and cartouches of deer, ruins, churchs, dog, pheasant in flight, etc. The short stem is hexagonal in cross-section. The foot is engraved with C scrolls. The edge of foot, mouth of bowl and three cartouches in top row are amber flashed. The light wear to edge of foot of foot suggests it is not that old. Though the engraving if confident it is poorly executed and lacks detail, which suggests such glasses were produced in large numbers.

The amber stain (or flash) and the hunting elements are clearly Bohemian. The shape of the glass is not conclusive - it may have had a lid at some time. The shape of the foot suggess it is not that old.

Thanks Ivo - the style and theme of decoration shouts 'Bohemian' to me too, but it could be made anywhere. The glass is quite light, and the foot cerainly looks quite modern in style to me.

It shares some design elements with Adam's goblet and my labelled Egermann tankard discussed here: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,42940.0.html

Ah, yes - that attribution would seem correct. Thanks for your help.
