« on: November 30, 2011, 09:10:23 AM »

Am confused as to whether this piece is in fact IOW? No label etc, stands 10" tall 3.5" diameter,

Any help would be most appreciated.

It does not look like Isle of Wight Studio Glass but that is not the only glass maker on the island. What does the engraved signature say?

Hi the date looks like it reads 2003 to me, I have seen something similar I think attributed to 'Top Glass' if I recall correctly - I can't find a reference right now as nothing comes up on the net for them. But I remember thinking how similar it looked to IOW Azurene in passing.

By 2003 one would assume that quite a number of artists could produce an "Azurene" type finish.  I do not think it is IOW either.

My best guess for the name is "Keith N............." where the surname is quite long.

I say "nay" to IoWSG too, although it has many features which might suggest it.
The rim finish isn't quite good enough, the strapping is too thick and the pontil mark is completely wrong

I can't see a single mark on the base at all.  :spls:

I like it, though!

sorry all I can find is on the Great Glass site which is that Top Glass is Stuart Fletcher based in the Midlands at a Craft Centre
LInk here but no reference to his work on the link to the centre.  You will need to look at your sig to see if you can make it out.

Hi Elmwood,  try rubbing a little talcum powder into the signature then retake the photo, it often helps it to show up really well.

Thankyou all for your replies. The vase is on Ebay, and I wondered whether or not to have a stab at it.......as we collect IOW.

The etched writing = "Topglass 8th November 2003".

Here is the ebay link should anyone else be interested.

sorry I'm a little confused - are they your pictures you have posted?
If not they will need to be removed as that is copyright infringement on the owners pictures.
The listing says it is Topglass and that it is inscribed on the base as such - that is the piece I must have noticed but not been able to find as I separated the words.
