Deco -- Bedroom Lamps ?? and Working !!!!
« on: December 02, 2011, 04:43:23 PM »
 :hi:

Got these at a local in-town Auction here.  Top bid was just over the $20 for the Pair.  Both are in Working order  :chky: which is always a good thing.   I am assuming they are Deco (or not)?  I think these are Bedroom lamps.  They DO cast a really nice reflection from the Glass Shades.  About 12 inches tall, and have a 4.5 inch round dotted base.  I think they have some Age to them.  I really like them.  Any other ideas on the maker, or the year of these lamps.  I know I have seem some like in it the past but that info did not *stay* in my brain as to this info.  LOL.

Some stuff does stick.... :ho: with so much Glass info

Thanks as always  :kissy:

If the fittings are made of bakelite then they may date from the thirties Rose, if they are more like plastic then probably later, perhaps the fifties. A photo of the bulb holder without the glass shade may throw some light on it.... :-[

We call them Boopie Skyscrapers...popular in the mid to late 40's.

I have a pair of the same bases tucked away.  Sadly no chimneys

I've seen those 'skyscraper' lamps with a variety of bases and chimneys.   Though the base pictured has some similarities I don't think it's either 'Candlewick' (Imperial) or 'Boopie' (Anchor Hocking).   I did some searches on mine.  Maybe I tagged them before I put it away, will have to look.

At any rate I think you did good a the auction.

Your Welcome, was wondering where you went.  Glad to see you popped back!!  :)

Still looking around here.  Found some that are called Skyscraper lamps, Deco, or Bullet lamps.....or even Boudoir lamps BUT have not found a real complete match.  So still trying..... :spls:

Rose if you are looking for a manufacturer the odds are highly stacked against you unless somehow, someway an original label is intact on a set & even then in all probability it will be the label from the final assembly manufacturer. For instance in the U.S. 95% of these types of late 20's to early 50's lamps used parts poured by just about every U.S. glass manufacturer under subcontract where in most cases the molds were supplied by the lamp company, poured by whichever manufacturer held the subcontract & the pieces/parts were then returned for assembly. Records were not kept of these subcontract pours. U.S. glass manufacturers did make some lamps under their own name, but with the exception of USG/Tiffin & Westmoreland these lamp lines were produced intermittently & were short lived. Cambridge, Fostoria, etc. made some lamps, but production was sporadic. The lone exception is Aladdin (AKA Chicago Lamp Co.) who operated their own glass plant so my advice is just enjoy them for what they are...period lamps of their time of which there are hundreds of examples.
