Iridescent Fish Paperweight?? sabino like? fenton? Other??
« on: December 05, 2011, 10:59:45 PM »
Not gotta clue with this fish its bugging me something about it is telling me its nice maybe its the lovely iridecent petrol coating or the pink whispy interior purple/red that seems to float around in the clear glass and almost follw the contours of the moulded scales etc unusual one im sure a collector of weight maybe might know something. It reminds me of the sabino fish but wrong colour i guess!! it measures 3.5"tall and 5" wide has a nicely poished base and the edges are nicely chamfered off to take any rough edges away it might be tk makk but it looks good????maybe haha?
Thanks for looking :smg:

Thanks ross, Had a look around cant find this shape in lalique as yet! Very similar though. I accidentally breathed on the base this morning and it showed up a mark where an ablong sticker must have sat at some point wouldnt it be marked if lalique?
thanks dan :hiclp:

It would be most unusual not to be marked if it were Lalique.  All I was saying is that it reminded me.  Looks well made to me - may be Scandi ?

Definitely not Lalique but "inspired by". I'd like to suggest Saphira (PL) as a possible maker - they used to produce a whole host of animalitos inspired by Lalique and VSL. A quick google yielded nothing, though - just dragons.

Perhaps Isle of Wight Studio Glass?

http://www.isleofwightstudioglass.co.uk/acatalog/Fish-Shells.html

The pics on the site aren't great - and I can't get two seperate screens up on my pc to compare side by side, pink doesn't seem to be a colour currently made - but it might have been in the past.

Isle of Wight Studio Glass gets my vote too. Both fish look very similar, just the colour that's not matching.

There's a similar one in my local antiques centre at the moment, with an iridescent finish, I think most of these are fairly recent.
