Hi - I bought this recently. The seller insisted it was Kosta Boda, but it is not marked in anyway and I cannot find anything resembling it in Kosta Boda's range. I bought it anyway - love the colour! and as it looked to me something like a Holmegaard Carnaby Ball vase, but as I have never handled one I would like to get your opinions.

It is 8 inches/20 cm high, 24Inches/61 cm around the "waist" weighs 29.4 oz or 838 gr. It is yellow cased in clear.

Has quite a lot of base wear on the rim of the base as the base itself is slightly indented.
No markings of any type that I can find.

Much in the way of cased glass from many different factories is often mis-attributed to Kastrup-Holmegaard as part of the 'Carnaby' series designed by Per Lütken and Christer Holmgren in 1968. Most often these cased glass pieces hail from Germany, produced by three factories; Hirschberg, Taube and Friedrich. There are some examples from Scandinavian factories such as Alsterfors and Elme, and Italian factories in the Empoli region.
 
In fact Holmegaard, compared to the glassworks mentioned above, produced very little in the way of cased glass in solid colours, but because it is the most famous of the factories it has become a handy hook for lazy or dishonest sellers to hang their cased glass hats upon.
 
This article aims to clearly define the 'Carnaby' series and any known variations and similar items produced by Kastrup-Holmegaard in this period.
 
The Carnaby Series Proper:
 
There are only sixteen different forms in the 'Carnaby' series, produced in five different colour combinations. The forms are all illustrated below:

'Carnaby' Series Anomalies:

As with any glassworks, there are always occasional items that deviate from standard production models, whether as a glassmaker's frigger, a special order, an exhibition piece, or a display model. Glassworks, especially Holmegaard, often produced non-standard pieces for sale to visitors through their factory shops. The following items are uncatalogued and do not feature in the 'Carnaby' range proper, but follow the same palette and style.
 

	Design: Per Lütken Available Colours: Blue/Opal, Coral-Red/Opal Height: 270mm Diameter: 210mm Notes: Oversized 'bulge' vase, probably designed as a shop display model or lamp-base.
	Design: Per Lütken Known Colours: Opal/Clear, Blue/Opal, Coral-Red/Opal Height: 130mm Diameter: 105mm Notes: Widely available in uncased glass for the 1963 'Majgrøn' series, but there are some cased examples following the 'Carnaby' colours. Probably sold through the factory shop. Designs from Jacob Bang's 'Capri' series are also known in this format.
	Design: Per Lütken Known Colours: Opal/Clear, Blue/Opal, Coral-Red/Opal Height: 150mm Diameter: 180mm Notes: Cased vase resembling the top part of one of the 'bulge' vases. Probably sold through the factory shop.

Yes I used your information when working out what it might be - but working from a photo only is always difficult. Then when it actually arrived I was surprised by how light it was - I expected it to be much thicker and heavier.
If you can use a photo of the yellow/clear one feel free to do so - or I can send a better photo if you like - not that they are rare - I expect you have one anyway :-)

Yes - I agree re Murano - discovered it recently myself- but I have no morals where glass is concerned - just about anything glass can seduce me!

Oh, if I saw a bit of Holmegaard going for nothing, I'd still snap it up (I bought a Lütken Majgrøn vase just the other week for £5 at a fair). 

But I try not to actively seek it out. I just don't have the space now that I'm surrounded by bowls and sculptures up to half a metre in height or diameter!
