Topic: * Czech (or Bohemian) Large Glass Bowl (Splatter) - Please Check ???

I got this today as I bought it from an auction place in town here.  It is a pretty big bowl, IMHO.  It is 8.5 inches Wide, and 3.75 inches tall. End of day glass (or splatter glass even IF an ugly word) ??  Base does show wear, and rim is polished with some wear too....but no chips

I am thinking that it is but then I am still never sure since you have to recall when I joined here I knew nothing about this type of glass and thought that other 3 legged long legged bowl was Chinese.  So I am thinking it is Czech (or is it bohemian) as to the date and the maker.  Is this tango, or is Tango only 2 colors???  Anyways, it is quite big, IMHO and having a look on the Net I have not found anything like it yet.

So maker, date, and any other info on this item -- as I am still learning about these.  I think it is good.......at least the price was. Lol.....Cheap in MO.

Rose, I believe "end of day" is a myth.  Sadly, I cannot help with your bowl, but it is quite attractive -- it's got a lovely, elegant shape.  I'm sure someone knowledgable in this type of glass will come along and tell you all about it.

Hiya Rose.  I'd call this spatter glass, although splatter or end of day is just as good, to be honest I'm not sure which of the three is most "correct", or if they're all just names collectors have given them over the years.  I think tango is one solid colour that has applied decoration in one other colour, usually on the rim, footed base, or decoration/handles to the main body.

I'd say it is probably 1930's/40's Czech, although it's hard to be sure.  Sometimes spatter glass is marked "Czechoslovakia" on the based, either in raised lettering, or with an often difficult to see acid stamp, in which case a UV light can help to find it.  Don't get your hopes up though, most spatter glass I've had is unmarked.

I think Spatter or Splatter is an ok description.  As far as I have gathered these were specifically put together using the chosen colours so I would not describe them as friggers nor as end-of-day.  It's a gorgeous bowl Rose and they weren't always marked as Wayne says.  You'd be lucky to find a mark.  The fact that the rim is cut and polished is also nice.

I would say it is a rather special one but not end of day in the literal sense; it is a standard production item. The colour mix is different and the shape is unusual. I would go through here http://www.kralik-glass.com and look for the shape, don't worry about the decor
