I agree with Keith that the piece looks like an example of Loetz Rusticana. The pattern is a little more defined than most Rusticana I have seen, but the decor is generally found on vases and not bowls, so I do not have much to compare it with.  I looked at my image library and I do not have any examples of Rusticana on a bowl.... They are all vases....

thanks Rose - it was from the previous Sunday's outing to the boot sale, and cost me just Sterling £2.    I had wondered originally if it might have been British  -  in fact I don't collect Loetz material (assuming it definitely is that), and am more than happy to pass this on (gratis) to either Craig, Keith or someone else who does.

Selina  -  you must visit and have an extended holiday here  -  I will take you to some very good boot sales and flea markets, but I can't guarantee you'll find another like this - it's the first I've ever seen, but will keep fingers crossed for you:)
