Can't think of the correct description for this underside sort of 'crinkly' effect, but I guess there must be one - top side is smooth. The whole bowl carries a sort of purplish iridescence, which not easy to photograph. Diameter is something like 7.75"/200mm, and there is a quality ground/polished concave pontil mark - but nothing else in the way of marks. Slight kick in the centre of the bowl, and a ten way crimp, with the underside having six small dimpled inset feet, and a few more around the sides. They remind me possibly of some decoration styles I've seen on pewter maybe.
Underside wear is neglibible, but the hump on the inside is showing loss of surface coating, with a lot of surface scratches.
I believe Walsh did some pieces with this finish, and Webb did something called green bronze, I think, but really have no real idea - and although I tend to avoid anything 'carnival' looking usually, I considered this wasn't. I know Webb's were keen on throwing fairy dust into the mix, but this piece definitley doesn't react to u.v. light
Of course, it might just as easily be eastern European from 1920 - 30 period. All ideas welcome, and thanks for looking
