Gooday,

I have a Hailware Tantalus complete with two Decanters that belonged to my Father, that I would like to have valued, any help would be much appreciated.

Regards

Andrew — Welcome to the GMB.

A Hailware tantalus is unexpected and sounds interesting.   Any chance of pictures, please, including one of the HAILWARE mark if possible?

Andrew — As promised I've resized and optimised your images.   As they're not mine, I've taken the extra precaution of watermarking the images with your copyright notice.   This is no guarantee that your images will not be misappropriated, but it is a strong deterrant.

I used IrfanView, a free download, see topic TECHIE TIPS: Posting Pictures - Guidelines and how to, and ZippyHelp Watermarker, an on-line utility from a long-established and impeccable source.

Here they are.   Click any image to enlarge:

I hope that is OK.

What is the handle at the top like?

I'm not sure on value but here is a little bit of info on the company... http://www.gracesguide.co.uk/Hailwood_and_Ackroyd

You will also find other items and info on the GMB search.

Andrew — The GMB is not the place for valuations.   As your tantalus may need some restoration, particularly possible rechroming, and as it's not clear whether it could be dismantled to allow this, I think you are likely to get the most interest from the glass sector.   Accordingly I suggest you contact glass specialist auctioneers for a valuation.   Bonhams of Knightsbridge and Fieldings of Stourbridge are to me the two most obvious starting points.

Others may be able to suggest Art Deco specialist auctioneers to contact.

Not a case of being sacrosanct, but valuation is a specialist area, and we are not professional appraisers, so if we get it wrong and you get mad at us, that's not good is it?  :ooh:

By the way, you can't reply to a topic by email with or without images as you tried to do earlier, the email simply bounces to me to deal with.  I've resized your base pic and am adding it here for you.

We also have a Help topic for pics which gives tips about how to get your images to work for the board: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,6522.0.html but you can shout for aid if you get stuck.
