Purple irregular Czech?Murano? bowl, encased in blue..help?
« on: January 18, 2012, 10:48:53 AM »
Hi good people, I got this at the thrift store, extremely beautiful colors, purple/violet with the blue at the base "bleeding" upwards in 3 places.

The shape is very haphazard though..so I dont get if its just the color that is good..hmm..

Base is smooth and has some wear, its about 14-15 cm across the top.

Anyone seen this type of handiwork before and what was it?

Many thanks!

Helga

Hi Helga,
your bowl is Czech, from the mid 1950s, Haida glass hut (which became Chribska I think, but I stand to be corrected by our Czech glass experts), probably designed by Josef Hospodka.
I have seen a similar vase in the Szypka auction catalogue attributed to Frantisek Zemek, though...

Here is a link to Czech glass revue where your bowl is depicted: http://picasaweb.google.com/Jindra8526/Glasrevue19567?authkey=Gv1sRgCObdroeh5O-a3wE#5438039548905345250

A very nice piece!

Michael

wow Thanks Michael!

yes it certainly looks like it belongs to that line.
very lucky find for just  15$ here in Reykjavík of all places.

But then Icelanders always liked to travel and bring stuff home.

Many thanks!

Helga
