As I said above, Andy this is a post-Harris design by Eric Dobson - given he designed Tiger - and this is sort of based on Tiger. Although Tiger was loosely based on Michael Harris' designs anyway (the lollipops with tri-colour internal strapping, but with the strapped colours merged and flattened) - it's sort of a progression of designs rather than a totally different design, I suppose.
By onion, do you mean the round bottomed shape with the spout? I never thought of that as an onion :thud: but as a shape specific to this Sea and Sand colourway. :)

Hi Sue, my comments were post   pub time  :ho:.
As you say , inspiration from previous designs and patterns. Ive added a couple of possible designs they were based on,
i think the bowl is a Harris pattern ? not sure about the Lollipop, is that Harris or Dobson ?
Also, not sure where i get 'onion' from, i think its other examples on ebay, it is , of course , the one in Marks book,
page 53 'tapering' .
Hope this helps.
Cheers
Andy

:24: And I was posting pre-coffee, Andy!  :pb:
(the postie woke me from a deep sleep - I'm still in shock  :spls: )

I'm pretty sure the bowl with the three spirals is a Harris design - based on my knowledge that there are pics of these in the Stenett-Willson '75 book on studio glass (along with IoWSG Tortoiseshell attenuated bottles).

It sort of fits in with the Chinese bowls - with the three "characters" around the body.

I may be wrong, though! I've seen some (and have one) which I am sure are of Harris period - delicate and beautifully made while there are others which seem far more "crude" - which I assume are later, certainly made by somebody less competent.

And, I have a weird one.  :sun: I believe it to be by one of the Boffos, as it is a tall (11") beaked vase in exactly the same proportions as the wfs ones - only a lot bigger.
Here it is, along with a pic that's a bit blurry, but shows my "collection" of this 3 spiral colourway bits.

I think the plates may be post-Harris (based on my experience of them not being good enough for MH!)

The smaller lollipop in your bottom pic, (the one with the blue midddle part over a sort of hour-glass centrepiece) I am fairly sure is a Harris design, it's not this Sea & Sand range. These continued to be made after MH left.
One of the wfs folk very kindly gave me an image of a photograph of Vicente Boffo taken in '84, when he was living in the uk. There was one of these lollipops on the sideboard behind him.

Ummm, no, I don't tend to think about "value". I collected it before I knew what I was doing. I probably overpaid for a lot of mundane stuff as well as getting hold of fabby and scarce stuff cheaply, sometimes not nearly so cheaply!  swings and roundabouts.
Frankly, I have trouble even estimating how many bits of Mdina I have, probably around 500, quite possibly more.
 :ooh:
