C-Z-E-C-H, I think.....but who?
« on: January 27, 2012, 12:36:54 AM »
 :hi: there:

Got this lovely bowl here of beautiful colors.  I pretty sure it must be Czech, but who might be the maker and the year made?  It was a $10 buy.  Thanks, and I just lost my little piece of paper with the facts (measurements) on it here -- so will add later (when I re-measure it)     Geeeeez

Thanks as always.... :kissy:

Hi Rose, looks like it might be Skrdlovice to me, 1960's-ish.  See what others think though.  Just out of interest, does it glow under UV?  I've had some Skrdlovice in these colours which did (and some which didn't).  I think you got a bargain!

Interesting piece, Rose!

I am not at all sure, but with that (as far as I can see) polished base without bevelled edge I would rather say not Skrdlovice...
Could still be Czech, though.

Michael

I'm with Michael on this one. A view looking down on the piece would help here. Or pop over for a coffee and bring the piece with you.

I think this is probably 50's Skrdlovice, by J. Broz. I will check the patterns but it is quite likely. Sometimes the bevelled-chamfered edge is near non existent, so fine as to be near invisible on some pieces and on a very few, actually non existent. I think I recognise the pattern and will check it out further, the colours will look more Skrdlovice in natural light I am sure,

Robert,

Thanks for the I'd. With the Skrdlovice ashtrays I find the top view give you the view, so thanks for the photos, Rose.

David

PS I must have been whale watching when you came, Rose. At my age, that's the only reasonable explanation for that instruction to the condo staff.

Thanks for that info.

You see I bought this Amber piece and another piece (greyish) that are just about the same.  They look to be made by the same maker, IMHO but I posted the greenish one first here as for the colors.  I will post the other one here too -- as I am pretty sure they are BOTH made by the same maker.  Bought them together for each for $10.

Amber/Greenish Bowl

~ 6.50 inches long (16.5 cm)
~ 4.25 inches wide (11 cm)
~ 3 inches high (7.25 cm)
~ Weight:  1.12 pounds

Blackish/Grey/Bluish Bowl

~ 6.25 inches long (about 16 cm)
~ 4 inches wide (10 cm)
~ 3 inches high (7.25 cm)
~ Weight:  1.96 pounds

They both look about the same -- except the Amber/Green one is a bit bigger but weighs a bit less.  The other one is kinda a black, or charcoal color (deep grey) to almost a dark purple ??? and you can only see *hints* of Blue in the glass.  The Amber one is much more colorful and stands out more.  Pretty much the same pattern, design, size, and wear on the base of both.  Maybe this other colored one will help to define the ID more-so.  IMHO, I am thinking the same maker, and year......maybe 1950's/1960's ??

@ Wayne -- No, Neither Glow -- Rats!!

Thanks

Hi there;

did you see the other one I posted here (post #8) the blackish one.  I bought both the amberish one and the black one at the same time -- they look like the same maker.

Can this be confirmed?

Thanks :kissy:
