New Murano Dish - Clear - Vaseline - Wine Red... Ideas Who??
« on: January 29, 2012, 12:55:10 AM »
I bought this today and it is a real stunner. Actually the nicest piece of Italian glass I have found in a while. A really curvacious and sensuous shape....I can not get pictures that do it justice, but these will give you an idea. The internal glass is quite uranium, and is much more yellow green in person than the image shows. Encased uranium in an outer lay of clear, the bowl is lightly lined with what looks red in the pics, but is actualy more of what I would call a deep wine color.  As shown in the last pic it glows like a traffic light under UV. Flat and polished bottom with appropriate age wear. I would guess at the 60's, and possibly Cenedese, but that is why I am here... I am constantly surprised.......

Measures approx 7 long, 4.5 wide and 2.5 inches tall

TIA
Craig

No description of maker but I thought yours would be described as a geode bowl... this one is very similar to yours...

If I am not mistaken, to be classified as a geode it has to have a perfectly flat upper edge.....  such as the attached example...

The examples shown are certainly quite similar.....

Yes Craig, you are quite right. To be classified as proper Geode bowl the edge needs to be flat.
