Crystal Turquoise/Blue Fan Shaped, Pleated Vase - Sklo Union?
« on: February 05, 2012, 03:33:15 PM »
Hi, Unable to identify this beautiful looking pleated fan shape vase even though it has been in my possession for a few weeks now.  I initially assumed it to be SKlo Union but now not too convinced.  Depending on lighting the colour changes very slightly from blue to green, even though I have been informed by others that it is blue.  The vase weighs 1kg.  Height 15.1cm, Opening at longest point is  21.5cm.  The vase, supposedly common, so I have been informed, I thought it would be a good idea to check out the post War Czech Glass By Mark Hill and Various SKlo Union sites.  Unfortunately I am still coming up with no clues.  Any leads would most certainly be appreciated, as I am pulling at straws with this one.

A variant of the Sowerby 2634 I believe, probably 1950/60s

Oh Paul!  If only you knew.....I still look for that vase and the pink one with the hot worked rim at least once a week.....the things I do for you, and now another one pops up on the GMB!!  Hey ho!  Does that mean I can cross it off my list of 'look fors'??

Thanks to you all for the attribution to this post.  I can now put a pattern No. to this basket type vase. The pattern design(shape), does not appear to be common, as I encountered difficulty in obtaining any further leads.  I am aware that Sowerby's closed down in the 1970/80's and it would be interesting to find out how many were made and colour variations used during that period.

glad you got a result Otis :)       Like yourself, you will have seen from my link that I also first thought it was possibly something from Czechoslovakia.

Rosie  -  my example lies buried in one of the garden sheds, somewhere, but you know that I'm grateful eternally for all those little things you do for me - it's good to know us GMB members can look out for each other (well most of us :))

I've only seen one other example, so am thinking this might be a less than common design  -  but not sure. :)

More than pleased Paul S.  The rarer the better I think, that's if no others with this design are posted on this site or any other site.    It was only the rim on the base that made me think it might be Sklo Union.  Anyway, I too can put this in storage for now.  Once again, thanks to you and others that have assisted with this post.

This might be a good time to give the pinkypeach bowl a nudge Paul...new members,  new knowledge....you never know.....it would be good to get an attribution for that one, I thought it was so pretty....go on!  Do it!

Otis,  good news to get it ID'd so quickly.....good hunting for other lovely glass.

You Paul, responsible.....breakfast at 11.19.....I don't think so!
However, you can redeem yourself by 'nudging' the pretty pink bowl today.
