Dartington tumblers?
« on: February 13, 2012, 06:10:34 PM »
I found a jug with a similar pattern described as a 'Bullseye' jug by Dartington. I'm wondering if these tumblers are part of the set?

Thanks, Tony x

I don't think so. I've got some of these, a couple of tall ones and a couple of shorts. I think they're really nice, but I don't know what they are. Ivo saw them when he was here a year or so ago, and he said he had a couple and he didn't know what they are either.

I see really lots of these here in Austria -- so perhaps Oberglas?

Well, they're NOT common here. If they were, I'd have amassed at least 6 to make a set, but all I've found over the years are the 4 I do have.

The background texture is different and the tumblers actually have round bits protruding inside the body.
And the roundy bits look sort of flat on the jug.
Thanks for digging that link out though, scavo! I've not seen a Dartington one like it before.

Cheers, i've had these about 5-6 years and not seen another in my area (North East of England).

Scavo, that was the item that i mentioned in my first post. That's the only one i could find so i thought it might be an incorrect attribution.  ;D

I wasn't completely sure about some of the other attributions myself.......
They've got that bark texture handkie vase with the tudor rose on its base as Bagley. I'd always thought these were something else - the glass in them is normally rather yellowy green - not the best colour at all - which I wouldn't have thought sits with Bagley too comfortably.  :spls:

The hanky vase thing was made at the Bagley factory when it was owned by Jackson under the White Rose Glass brand, so no, not Bagley.

I'm not convinced by the Bullseye jug either. If it is Dartington it's post-Thrower. Your glasses look factory made Tony, not hand made IMHO

The glasses are mould-blown. They're NOT Ravenhead. I do know that. ;D

and "whew" about the rose and barky stuff.  ;)
