Oiva Toikka or maybe Iittala Glass
« on: February 14, 2012, 04:38:13 PM »
Bought this vase at a local shop.  Saw a similar one for sale on ebay and the seller said he thinks it was made by Oiva Toikka or maybe sold by Iitalla Iittala Glass.  It is about 7" (17.5 cm) tall and has no signature.  Any information would be helpful.  Thanks.

Hi and welcome!
I can't tell too much about your very nice vase (whatever it is) because the picture sdoesn't blow up too much.
A picture of the base, even if it's unmarked, is always helpful for attribution.
Is it round or oval?
I'm not much good at Scandi glass, but this looks a bit more from around German/Austrian regions to me.
There will be others along who know more than I do!
Cheers, Sue M. (she/her)

Thanks, it's oval.  I had to decrease the size of the picture in order to  make it "fit" here.  I collect US pattern glass with a ruby stain so this is far removed from my area of knowledge.  I appreciate your response.  Cheers, Tom

Hi! Just to tell you this piece does not look Scandinavian to me either especially the base shot added now. It is not from Iittala and not designed by Oiva Toikka anyway. Sue's hunch of a German or Austrian origins could be worth a search.
Hope someone with more knowledge pops in eventually!

So do I! It does rather remind me of some work by Peill & Putzler.

Bedlam, could you go over it very, very carefully - around the base on the outside of the vase, to see if there is a tiny mark which looks as if it's made from two letter P's, back to back, sharing the main stem of the letter?

The P&P mark is often very hard to find and not always on the base of the piece!

BIG thanks to you both.  I got out my loupe and looked carefully and could not find a single mark.  Thanks for the tip about the German or Austrian maker.  I am going to keep my eyes open.  Cheers, Tom

Don't think we're giving up yet!
Sometimes it can take years to finally track down an id - but I do think there are folk here who may well know what your vase is. It's a very attractive thing.

When I was looking for a maker of the Bullseye glasses I came across this, and thought it was very similar to your vase bedlammanor......is it the one you bought, or have we found a second one?  No real attribution,  but at least there are others around.  Will keep looking for the glasses as well this vase.......we will get there.

Maybe a Rosenthal Studio Line piece?

I have a couple which aren't signed, and identical ones which are.
