Need help to ID pink iridescent glass flower bowl.
« on: February 23, 2012, 10:10:33 PM »
I found this beautiful bowl and have exhausted myself searching to figure out what it is or when it was made. I have had absolutely no luck, perhaps it is nothing special and maybe that is why? Either way, I would be very happy with any general information anyone could give me on it. I can do the research myself, I just don't know where to start! Thanks!

I don't know if mine are exactly the same but I bought a set of three flower candleholders last year and they look to be very similar to this.  They were in a lovely box, looked as though they were Dutch made, but I think that was just the wholesaler and I'm sure I discovered they were made in China.  Very  pretty but don't scrub it as the coating comes off.

Hmmm, interesting. Just curious, did you purchase them new or second hand?

Also, what coating came off? I don't see how either the external coating or iridescent coating would come off. I scratched both vigorously with my nail and no change.

Does this type of glass have a name?

I bought them new.  On the reverse of your vase it looks like it is coated with something sprayed on rather than coated in clear glass, but it may just be my eyesight and the pics.  Difficult to tell from pictures.

It is definitely not sprayed on, its part of the glass. The exterior is very shiny in person.

Thanks for your help, hoping someone else will chime in!

It looks like that very strange sort of glass which can feel a little bit like plastic (not as cold as it should be and very thin) and makes a strange unglass-like tinny sort of sound when you tap it with your fingernail.....
