Chamber pot shape with bobbles
« on: March 02, 2012, 04:07:13 PM »
Hi all, This is a weird little piece. Seen one called a small 'potty'. Seems a little bit strange, as I would say maybe a candle holder. Sklo do the bobble range which does look like this could be a part of that range. I think it is smokey grey in colour and it is 6.5cm high and a touch under 12cm across. No marks at all. It has a polished pontil. (I stand to be corrected on that term) Please tell me I got one right   Im learning but very slowly.
Pete. :-)

It is sklo; that just means glass. I don't think it's Borske Sklo though. In fact I'm not sure we know who made these, despite their being quite common

Thanks Lustrousstone, I have seen a couple of makers with a similar effect, Empoli, Borske sklo the latter being the one I thought it might be. It looks like the Ball vase (with the rim turned out and a handle put on) but if its not them I will keep trying. As to what it is any guesses ?

I would have a look at Empoli as that bobble looks quite familiar.  I think I've seen similar in Empoli verde.

I have seen the seed pod style in Empoli. It does look similar also saw a similar pattern on 'Prachen' ( I can hope ;D) Only seen one picture of this particular piece. Empoli would be good but I get the feeling it will be left unidentified so far.  :-\

There is similarity to Empoli Verdi except the base, if 20thcentryglass.com is anything to go by, is completely different. However, I have a few pieces of confirmed Empoli that have pattern continued onto the base.

I would certainly consider Borski Sklo - but I'd like to compare bottoms! The colour is very similar to 'bobble' but yours seems to have a slight amber lustre. Or is that light contamination in the photo?

The amber colour only appears in the photo's so must be the lighting. (I am going to try and find out what colour background works best for individual colours.) I have seen a photo on flickr that is an amber Borske Sklo vase but the base is almost identical. Can we copy off flickr to post on here ??
Is it just me or is Google not working well ?? Something is different about search results, they dont seem to be as in depth and lots of sites wont open ??

It's not Borske Sklo; that was factory mould-blown glass with no hot hand finishing. This was hand blown and finished.

We've had these on the board before... someone had a green one,  I seem to think...? and there's an amber one here which looks like it could be similar to yours (pics not too clear): http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,41829.0.html

This  is a puzzle that I'm sure will be answered eventually. Some one suggested 'Webb' but he couldn't find it so I will start on that but not expecting anything. Could this be chinese ?? It is in such good condition with no obvious sign of wear to the base. (I havent checked ikea or Tk max)  ;D ;D
Thanks for the input all.
